Emerging Trends in Education

Image
The emerging trends in education are led by the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in classroom materials. AI is being used as a tool for both educators and students to enhance their educational experience together. For teachers, AI is being used as a tool for creating classroom materials and for students, AI is being used as an “outside of the classroom” support system. By seeing the positive outcomes that AI can do to enhance the educational experience in society, it is hard to argue why AI shouldn’t be embraced in the educational setting.   The emerging trends in education are reshaping the culture of learning by providing learners with a support tool. Learners can use AI as an on-demand tutoring service to help understand concepts in education. AI has become so vastly improved in the last few years that AI has become well versed in all education subjects and has become a great real-time tool for students to access support in their studies. Another use that students can use...

Participatory Culture in the Present Day

Image
Participatory culture is the idea of creating something of meaning as a group or community. On a small scale perspective, participatory culture could be something such as the passing down of a family heirloom that someone created within the family. For myself, my great grandfather was a woodworker and he made a bookshelf that has been passed down for generations with myself currently in possession. On a bigger scale, participatory culture could be a group of people that come together with similar interests and skills that are actively participating in creating and engaging with New Literacies. These groups could use types of media that interests them collectively to try and influence others such as using video making for commercials or blog entries for social media to influence political aspects in life. I can embrace the best of participatory culture into everyday practices of my classroom by allowing students to work in groups and use their media/technology strengths to present infor...

Children and Technology

Image
The article, “What Do We Know About Children and Technology,” discusses the different effects that technology can have on children, both positive and negative. There is more of a focus on talking about situations of technology usage by children that refer to negative implications and then trying to analyze those implications with research such as the affects of video games, the affects of blue light and sleep patterns, and the effects of not having access to internet and social media and how that affects child depression to name a few. The article ends with talking about how schools can be used to support students with understanding healthy uses of technology and showing students that classrooms can effectively use technology to provide “an” experience. An insight that I learned from this article is that there is a lot of attention to how technology is affecting children. I feel that from an outside perspective looking in, I feel that children nowadays tend to have way too much screen ...

Wise Integration of Technology

The two technological frameworks that I chose to look into for a further understanding of wise integration of technology were the RAT framework and the Triple E framework. The RAT framework stands for Replacement, Amplification, and Transformation. The Replacement step refers to replacing a form of instruction that is not currently using technology. Amplification refers to the idea that if a form of technology is being used, then the technology must amplify the learning ability for students. Lastly, Transformation refers to the idea that the technology being used is able to accomplish something that an instruction without the technology couldn't. The RAT framework emphasizes the idea that using technology effectively in a lesson plan implies that the technology is being progressive in the learning experience in reference to what the technology is replacing and that it allows more freedoms during a lesson plan than the previously used lesson plan. The Triple E framework refers to En...

Does Media Influence Learning?

Media influence in learning is the effects on the learning experience through the use of media. Some may argue that the influence of media is determined whether the influence is effective through a method of teaching or a medium of teaching. The main difference here is that a method of teaching uses media on a more consistent basis in the classroom whereas a medium is using media every now and then for lesson planning. Another way to think about it is when an instructor uses media in their lesson plans, is it something that they consistently use all the time and students expect to use the media as part of their classroom experience? Or, is the media being used by an instructor something that is used sometimes in the classroom for specific instances of learning? Some great examples of whether media is used consistently or occasionally are Pear Deck and the Assassin's Creed video game series. Pear Deck is an instructional tool that allows the instructor to give a lecture in a digital...
